Helvellyn Map

Offline walking maps from Spatial Terrain, covering the Helvellyn test area in the Lake District.

This is a limited coverage test map for evaluating Spatial Terrain mapping. The package covers approximately 10 km by 6 km around Helvellyn. Places, routes and GPS fixes outside the downloaded area are flagged in the app.

Using the map

The app includes sharp day maps at 1:25,000, 1:10,000 and 1:5,000, plus a night map at 1:25,000. Closer night zoom levels use the day map.
Use the position control for GPS navigation, enable the compass for heading, or pan the map to use the map-centre target. The target line shows a straight bearing, not a checked walking route.
Import your own GPX file to follow a route. The app does not calculate new hiking routes.
Search the included names, an OS grid reference or latitude and longitude offline.
Import an original geotagged image from Files to place its GPS location on the map. Messaging apps and photo providers may remove EXIF location data; if no location is found, try the original file. Photo pins last for the current session.

GPS and recordings

Start Record walk to record locally. Allow precise location, and on Android allow notifications to see recording status and its Stop recording control. You can stop inside the app, view Recorded walks and share GPX. Recording may be interrupted by phone power management, permission changes or operating system limits. A phone's sensors, battery and GPS reception affect navigation. Check your route and terrain, carry appropriate navigation equipment and do not treat the target line as a safe route.

Your information

There is no account and no automatic upload of searches, photos or GPS history. You can delete individual walks or all local app data in the menu. Read the Helvellyn Map privacy policy for details.

Availability

Version 1.0.0 is being prepared for Android testing and Apple TestFlight. Public store links will be added when available.
